The Guide To Starting Padel Content: Filming, Confidence & What Actually Matters

Learn how to start filming padel content. From camera setup and formats to overcoming any lack of confidence.

This guide is part of the Padel Content Creation resource hub, where we break down how padel creators grow properly. You can view that hub here

Creating Your First Piece Of Padel Content Isn’t Just About Skill - It’s About Mindset and Structure

If you’ve ever wanted to create padel content but stopped yourself mid-planning because of self-doubt - you’re not alone.

Most padel players struggle not because they lack ideas (some do, and that's ok)…but because they haven’t yet understood what truly makes content worth watching and worth posting.

It’s not because you’re not a pro player.

It’s not because your rally wasn’t perfect.

It’s because filming and confidence are two sides of the same barrier - and once you understand how to overcome them, everything changes.

1. The Real Reason People Hesitate to Film

Fear shows up in a few ways:

  • “What if my footage isn’t good enough?”

  • “People at the club are watching…”

  • “I don’t even know what angle to use.”

But here’s the key insight:

No one else is watching your video BEFORE it’s online.

And once it is, most people don't have the same, if any judgment, on you.

Your audience, especially on YouTube, isn’t watching people at the court - they’re seeking meaning, context, or entertainment.

So the first step isn’t about equipment.

It’s about getting comfortable pressing record.

At the end of the day too...the real truth of it is, YOU are capable to go to your next padel match with your camera and film it.

You 100% can take that action, that really takes zero skill, so sometimes, you've just got to get out of your own way.

2. Equipment Matters - But Only After You Get Started

You don’t need a cinema rig.

Here’s the minimal setup that actually works:

For long form (YouTube)

  • Landscape recording on your phone

  • Stable position (tripod)

  • Clear audio if you speak - but it’s optional

For short form (Reels/Shorts)

  • Vertical cropping or native vertical capture

  • Text and edits added later

The key is that the footage must be usable and understandable - not perfect.

3. Know What You’re Filming - Because Content Without Intent Ends Up Going Nowhere

Filming without intent is like playing matches without a game plan - it might be fun, but it won’t get you where you want to go.

Before you hit record ask yourself:

  • Is this building towards a story?

  • Is this tied to a goal I actually care about?

  • Would someone benefit from watching this whole clip?

  • Am I recording for a funny short form piece of content? What does that look like specifically?

The moment you think in terms of purpose, not perfection, is the moment your content stops being random - and starts being meaningful.

4. Confidence Comes From Repetition, Not Validation

No one wakes up confident.

Confidence is a by-product of practice.

You don’t get good at filming by waiting for the perfect moment.

You get good at filming by filming.

Start with:

  • Choosing one angle

  • Recording every session

  • Editing only the pieces that actually tell a story

And remember - almost no-one looks at the flaws you think they’re judging.

People are too busy with the thoughts in their own heads.

5. What Actually Makes Footage Watchable

Platforms don’t care about skill.

They care about attention:

  • “Do viewers understand what they’re watching within seconds?”

  • “Does the video hold attention past the first 3-5 seconds, 10 seconds, a minute?”

  • “Does context make someone curious enough to continue?”

This is why edited content does better than raw clips - not because it’s flashy, but because it answers the viewer’s question:

“Why should I keep watching?”
